A safari designed around the patience, light and instinct of a great photograph.
This is not a journey built around collecting sightings. It is a considered photographic expedition through Tanzania's most expressive landscapes, with only four guests in each vehicle and no more than twelve in the group. That smaller rhythm gives every photographer room to work, change position and stay with a scene until it becomes something more than a record of the moment.
From Tarangire's elephants and baobabs to the Ngorongoro Crater and the immense Serengeti, each chapter is chosen for its visual depth. Expert wildlife photographers and guides read the changing light, animal behaviour and landscape so that your days feel less like a workshop schedule and more like a succession of rare opportunities, beautifully observed.

Day 01
Kilimanjaro International Airport · Arusha
Arrive in Arusha, with the story still ahead
An Excellent Guides host welcomes you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and brings you through the foothills beneath Mount Meru to Arusha. There are no camera calls today, no need to rush toward a first frame. Check in, rest and let the atmosphere of Tanzania's safari capital settle around you. The days ahead will begin early and ask you to look closely; this opening evening is simply for arriving well and letting anticipation sharpen gently.
Day 02
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire, where elephants meet ancient baobabs
After breakfast, head to Tarangire, a landscape made for scale and texture. Baobabs rise above open grassland, the river draws wildlife close and elephant families move through the scene with an unhurried presence. With a small photographic group, there is time to adjust the angle, wait for dust to lift into the light and let a single encounter develop rather than driving on too soon. A cultural visit with the Maasai adds another perspective to the place.
Day 03
Tarangire National Park
A second Tarangire light study
Return to Tarangire with the advantage of familiarity. The second day is where a landscape begins to reveal its rhythm: elephant paths to water, birds catching the first warm air, lions holding still in the shade and baobabs changing character as the sun moves. Work both early and late, keeping the middle of the day for a slower return to camp, image review or simply a rest before the afternoon light draws you back out.
Day 04
Ngorongoro Crater · Central Serengeti
Ngorongoro, then on to the endless plains
Leave Tarangire after breakfast and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a three-million-year-old caldera where wildlife is gathered into one extraordinary natural bowl. Elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and the rare black rhinoceros are all possible, while the crater walls give every frame a powerful sense of scale. After a picnic on the floor, continue toward the Serengeti. By evening, the landscape opens and the photographic story takes on an entirely different horizon.
Day 05
Central Serengeti
First light on the Serengeti
The early call comes before sunrise, when the Serengeti is still blue with night and animal movement is beginning again. Work the morning light with your guide, following fresh tracks, bird activity and the shifting silhouettes of the plains. Return to lodge for lunch and a pause, then head out again as the afternoon becomes gold. The goal is not a list of species; it is to be present when a cheetah, a giraffe or a line of wildebeest becomes a photograph with its own atmosphere.
Day 06
Central Serengeti
Follow the movement, not a checklist
A full day in the Serengeti gives your guide permission to follow instinct. It may lead toward a lion pride, the restless energy of a herd or an open kopje where light and cloud make the landscape feel theatrical. If the migration is in the area, the movement can fill an entire frame; if not, the resident wildlife is no less compelling. Your vehicle stays with a scene when it is worth staying, because the best image often arrives after the first one.
Day 07
Central Serengeti
The wild details between the dramatic moments
By now, the Serengeti no longer feels unfamiliar. That is when the smaller stories begin to matter: a hornbill lifting through dawn light, zebra patterns turning a herd into abstraction, a hyena on the move at the edge of a storm. Spend the day looking beyond the obvious without ever missing the chance of a bigger encounter. Expert guidance helps balance both, turning long hours in the field into a portfolio of images with texture and personality.
Day 08
Central Serengeti
One more day to let the plains lead
The final full Serengeti day is held open for the possibilities that have emerged during the workshop. Revisit a promising area, follow a particular animal behaviour or simply work the changing weather across the open grassland. In the north, the Mara River crossings become a seasonally dramatic chapter; in the south, calving season brings a different intensity. Wherever you are, the endless plains offer the rare luxury of an unfinished image waiting for the right patience.
Day 09
Serengeti · Arusha
A final frame, then Arusha's calm
Take a final en-route game drive toward Seronera Airstrip, leaving room for one last encounter before the flight to Arusha. On arrival, return to the comfort of Gran Melia Arusha for lunch, a leisurely afternoon and a final dinner together. It is a welcome change of pace after the field: a chance to back up photographs, revisit the journey's standout frames and let the experience settle from memory into something you will keep working with long after you are home.
Day 10
Arusha · Kilimanjaro International Airport
Depart with the images, and the seeing behind them
Depending on your flight time, enjoy a final slow morning or day room before your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport. The workshop may be over, but the real work of photography continues in the way you remember the light, the silence before a shutter and the patience required to let the wild reveal itself. We hope the photographs take you back to Tanzania for years to come and, perhaps, bring you here again.
